Dad

This is my Dad when he retired as a Major from the ARMY back in 1996 after about 20 years of service. After the ARMY he got a job working for FEMA. He went to many natural disasters across the country, including Hurricane Katrina where he spent several weeks trying to survive while also working in the terrible conditions just like everyone else.

His hobby/2nd career was photography, yes he is taking this picture of himself at the Mariner's game a few years ago.

My Dad had a terrible stroke on Aug. 10, 2007 which was the start of a long weekend of surgeries and eventually his life. His wife, my brother Travis, and I had to make the decision to take him off life support 3 days later, August 13th, 2007. I was able to hold his hand as he passed away within minutes of the machines being taken away and turned off.

Since he was such a high ranked officer/veteran he had a military gun salute at his funeral. The military officials also folded the flag and presented to my step-mom who then presented to my brother, Travis.

I asked my Aunt, who did my wedding flowers, if she would incorporate my Dad's dog tags into my bouquet somehow so I could have a piece of him with me on my wedding day.

I also had a memory table for him. The candle was actually given to me by my best friend right after he died and she said to burn it while thinking of him. This touched me so much I felt that it needed to be part of the memory table.
